How We Work
Insurance Guidance Without the Confusion
Most people dread dealing with insurance because the process feels designed to confuse rather than inform. At Salvas Insurance Agency, we flip that experience. As an independent health insurance broker, we are not tied to any single carrier, which means we shop reputable, A-rated carriers on your behalf and present you with options that match your budget, your doctors, and your prescriptions. We sit with you, explain every detail in plain language, and make sure you leave the conversation feeling confident, not overwhelmed. From Medicare Advantage and Medigap to ACA marketplace plans and supplemental coverage, we handle the research so you can focus on what matters most.
Our Story
From Corporate Insider to Community Advocate
Founder Veronica Saldana-Vasquez spent eight years at UnitedHealthcare before stepping away from the high-volume corporate model to start Salvas Insurance Agency in 2023. That career gave her deep insight into how carriers operate, how claims are processed, and where clients often get lost in the system. Now she uses that knowledge to protect the people of South Texas rather than serve a corporate quota. Salvas Insurance Agency is a true family operation, with Veronica's sons and daughter-in-law Allison working alongside her to deliver a level of personal accountability that no call center can match. When you work with us, you are not a policy number. You are a neighbor.

We partner with the Coastal Bend Food Bank and support Operation Safe Return because we believe a good business gives back. Our community ties are not a marketing tactic; they reflect who we are and what we stand for.

Common Questions
Answers to Your Insurance Questions
  • What does it mean that Salvas Insurance Agency is an independent broker?

Being independent means we are not contracted exclusively with one insurance carrier. Instead, we work with multiple reputable, A-rated carriers and compare their plans side by side on your behalf. This gives us the freedom to recommend coverage based on what actually fits your situation, including your doctors, your prescriptions, and your budget, rather than being limited to one company's products. It is the opposite of a captive agent who can only offer what their single employer sells.
  • How much does a consultation with Salvas Insurance Agency cost?

All consultations are 100% free and completely zero-obligation. There is no charge to sit down with us, review your options, or ask questions. We are compensated by the carriers when a plan is selected, which means you receive expert, personalized guidance at no cost to you. If you decide at the end of a meeting that you are not ready to make a change, that is completely fine. We would rather you leave informed than pressured.
  • Do you serve clients who live outside of Corpus Christi?

Yes. Salvas Insurance Agency serves a 200-mile radius from our Corpus Christi headquarters, covering counties including Nueces, Jim Wells, Duval, San Patricio, Bee, Kleberg, and Bexar. We regularly travel to communities like Victoria, Port Lavaca, and Falfurrias for in-home appointments. If you are in a rural area and getting to an office is difficult, just let us know and we will come to you. We also offer virtual consultations for clients anywhere in our service area.
  • When is the right time of year to review a Medicare plan?

The Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. This is the primary window when Medicare beneficiaries can switch between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare, change their Supplement plan, or update their Part D prescription coverage. Changes take effect on January 1. Certain life events can also trigger a Special Enrollment Period outside that window. We recommend scheduling a review before October 15 so you have time to compare options without the rush of peak enrollment season.
  • What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and a Medicare Supplement plan?

Medicare Advantage plans, also called Part C, are offered by private carriers and bundle hospital, medical, and often prescription coverage into one plan. They typically have lower premiums but may restrict you to specific provider networks. Medicare Supplement plans, also called Medigap, work alongside Original Medicare to cover costs like copays, coinsurance, and deductibles. They generally offer broader provider access but come with higher monthly premiums. The right choice depends on your health needs, preferred doctors, and financial situation, which is exactly what our needs analysis process is designed to sort out.
  • What is an Indexed Universal Life policy and how can it be used as a college savings tool?

An Indexed Universal Life, or IUL, is a type of permanent life insurance that builds cash value over time based in part on the performance of a market index. Because the cash value grows on a tax-advantaged basis, some families use IUL policies as a long-term savings strategy for their children's education. The idea is to start the policy early so that by the time a child reaches college age, there is meaningful cash value available to draw from. It is not a replacement for traditional savings accounts in every situation, but it can be a useful part of a broader financial plan.
  • What supplemental insurance options do you offer, and who are they for?

We offer accident insurance, hospital indemnity coverage, and dental and vision plans. These products are designed for individuals and families who have a primary health plan but want extra financial protection for situations that standard coverage does not fully address. For example, hospital indemnity pays a set benefit directly to you if you are hospitalized, helping cover out-of-pocket costs or lost income. These options are especially useful for working families who cannot afford a coverage gap if the primary earner gets hurt or becomes ill.
  • Can family members join a consultation when reviewing coverage options?

Absolutely, and we actually encourage it. Many of our clients are seniors whose adult children help them research and evaluate their options. Having family members present means everyone hears the same information, questions get answered in real time, and the whole family feels confident in the decision. Whether the meeting is in-person or virtual, there is always room for the people who matter most to be part of the conversation.
